ThunderBird Toastmasters

Club Handbook

Each Toastmaster club runs its affairs to achieve the goals of Toastmasters International in the way that best meets the needs of its members. Thus, each club has its own personality and way of running meetings. This guide shows you how we run ours. Thunderbird is a friendly and relaxed club. We pride ourselves on the diversity of our membership, our commitment to making everyone feel welcome and on having fun while developing our abilities. We want you to take part and we will help you to feel as comfortable as possible in all of the roles you will perform.

One of the benefits of being a Toastmaster is that you decide what pace you would like to set for your self-development. While challenges can be scary, they also have rewards. Our resources and experience can help, so don’t be afraid to ask for assistance when you prepare for duties, speeches or presentations.

The Vice-President of Education prepares a schedule for each meeting. At first you will be assigned less complicated roles, then you will gradually progress into duties that require more preparation and experience. Each meeting has an agenda which is prepared by the meeting’s Toastmaster.

The first half of the evening is devoted to reviewing the roles and to the prepared speeches. The second portion of the evening consists of Table Topics and the evaluation program.

The following sections describe each of the roles used at Thunderbird, including tips and advice on how to fulfill them.
