ThunderBird Toastmasters

Meetings

Attention: We do not meet on public holidays or long weekends.

Meetings are held Mondays and start at 7pm sharp, at the New Horizon Center in James Bay (directions). Guests are always welcome.

Every meeting lasts two hours and the majority of members have an opportunity to speak. Each person is assigned a speaking role to perform. Our meetings follow an organized agenda with specific timing to each one.  Our meetings typically follow this:

  1. Meeting welcome
  2. Guest introductions
  3. Role descriptions
  4. Short speeches
  5. 2-3 prepared speeches
  6. Table topics
  7. Evaluations
  8. Fun quiz
  9. Awards
  10. Guest comments
  11. Announcements
  12. Meeting close

Evaluation

The lifeblood of Toastmasters is evaluation; for without it we cannot improve. Each evaluation is undertaken by an experienced club member who has learned how to evaluate. Our meetings are structured such that every person with a speaking part is evaluated. Evaluation is something to be welcomed!

Speaking Extemporaneously

Members also get a chance to practice the art of improvisational speaking. You may be called upon to fill a role on short notice or to give a two-minute impromptu speech during the Table Topics session. The goal is to learn to think “on your feet”. Thunderbird Toastmasters offers you that opportunity in a fun and supportive atmosphere!

Fun, Challenge and Reward

You will have fun achieving your goals! We promise you that the rewards will be equal to the challenges inherent in Toastmasters membership. Your self- confidence will increase and you will be able to put your audience at ease while you focus on more advanced goals whether personal or professional.
